Why rat repellent isn’t a permanent solution

Many products claim to work as a rat repellent, promising to drive rats away from homes and buildings. In reality, repellents do nothing to stop rats entering a property in the first place. Rats infest buildings because they provide warmth, shelter and access to food, and once those conditions exist, simple deterrents rarely make any lasting difference. Strong smells, essential oils, powders, predator scents and ultrasonic rat repellent devices may sound convincing, but they are often ignored by rats, impractical to apply throughout a property, or completely ineffective inside walls, roof voids and drainage systems. In most cases, rat repellent products either provide only short-lived disturbance or fail to affect the rat infestation at all.

Successful rat control relies on prevention rather than trying to repel rats after they have already entered. As long as structural gaps, drainage defects or other access points remain, rats will continue to return regardless of smells, noise devices or other repellent methods.
