Rat Traps

Why rat traps are not a permanent rat control solution

Rat traps are designed to capture rats, but catching individual rodents does not resolve the underlying issue — how rats are gaining access to the building in the first place. In practice, rat traps are often much less effective than people assume, usually removing only a small number of the rats present. Rats are highly adaptable animals that quickly become cautious of changes in their environment and can often detect and avoid traps altogether. Because of this, trapping may remove a few rats while the main rat infestation continues unnoticed within the structure.

Successful rat control depends on prevention rather than trapping. Rats infest properties because structural gaps, drainage defects or other weaknesses in the building allow them to enter and move through the structure. If those access points remain, any rats that are trapped will soon be replaced by others. The key to resolving a rat problem is identifying exactly how rats are entering the property and permanently sealing those routes. This is the approach Pestology takes: no reliance on rat traps or temporary measures — just detailed investigation, professional rat proofing, and long-term solutions that keep properties permanently free from rats.
